HOW THE PETSAFE LITTLE DOG SPRAY BARK CONTROL COLLAR WORKS

The PetSafe® Little Dog Spray Bark Control Collar stops barking when it is properly worn by the dog. The Bark Control Collar has a unique patented sensor that makes it the most reliable bark detector. It uses both vibration and sound sensors (patented Dual Detection) to identify a bark and also identify it from other external noises. When both vibrations from the dog’s vocal cords and the bark’s sound is detected; A burst of lemon-scented spray is emitted from the collar to deter barking.

IMPORTANT

• DO NOT attach a leash on to the Bark Control Collar. If you need to attach a leash; put on a separate non-metallic collar on the dog’s neck and attach a leash on to that collar.
• It is OK for your dog to wear a harness for attaching a leash and/or tags while using the Bark Control Collar.
• If you will play with your dog, turn the unit off first and remove the Bark Control Collar from the dog’s neck. If the collar is on while playing; your dog may associate play with the spray.
• Never leave the Bark Control Collar on more than 8 consecutive hours.

KEY DEFINITIONS

FIT THE BARK CONTROL COLLAR

Important: The proper fit and placement of your Bark Control Collar are vital in the training process.
To ensure a good and proper fit, please follow these steps:

a. Mark the desired length of the collar with a pen. Make an allowance for growth if your dog is young or if it grows a thick winter coat.
b. Remove the Bark Control Collar from your dog and cut off whatever is excess.
c. Run the frayed edges over a candle flame to seal it. Put it on the dog.

7. The PetSafe® QuickFit™ collar is designed so you can easily attach and remove the Bark Control Collar from the dog without changing the fit. You can use the Snap Buckle to remove and replace the collar once the fit is determined.

Important: The Bark Control Collar should not be worn more than 8 hours for a 24-hour period.

ENSURE A PROPER SPRAY PATTERN

For the PetSafe® Little Dog Spray Bark Control Collar to be effective, the nozzle must be positioned properly. The Spray Nozzle must have a clearance with the dog’s snout for the spray to be felt by the dog. Follow these steps below for proper positioning:

1.  The PetSafe logo must be positioned in an upright position with the Spray Nozzle is at an angle pointing up towards the dog’s snout.
2.  For long-haired dogs, hair trimming may be necessary to ensure there is no barrier for the spray to reach the dog’s nose.

ON/OFF BATTERY MODULE

The PetSafe® Little Dog Bark Control Collar is packed with a battery that is initially in the “OFF” position. To activate the collar, use a coin to turn the Battery Module counter clockwise until the arrow points the “ON” position. If the PetSafe® Little Dog Bark Control Collar is not going to be used on the dog keep it in the “OFF” position.
 

BATTERY LIFE

The average battery life is 2 to 4 months. It is solely dependent on your dog's barking activities. The more your dog barks the more battery will be consumed. Expectedly; the first battery may be consumed faster than the replacement as dogs are still new to the system. As they learn about the process; they will minimize barking and therefore consume lesser battery.
 

FUNCTION AND RESPONSE TABLE

TO FILL AND REFILL THE LEMON SPRAY

• Remove the collar from the dog’s neck.
• Turn unit off.
• Hold the Lemon Spray can upright and firmly press the nozzle down into the Refill Port. Hold for about 15 seconds And then remove. Note: If spray leaks; you need to do it again and need to press harder this time.
• Turn On unit.

Important: Reset Spray Counter after each refill to properly monitor consumption.
Steps to reset spray counter:

1.  Turn unit on.
2.  The LED should turn green for 1 second.
3.  Then the light will turn yellow for 2 seconds.
4.  Turn unit off as soon as you see the LED yellow light turn unit off, (this can be done by using a coin to turn the battery module to the “OFF” position.)
5.  Wait 2 seconds after the unit is turned off.
6.  Turn the unit on (turn the battery module to “ON” position using a coin)
7.  The LED gives a yellow flashing light 5 times indicating that the Spray Counter has been reset and the unit is good to use. The unit can now be put on the dog.
    

LITTLE DOG BARK CONTROL COLLAR - WHAT TO EXPECT DURING USE

Important: Always be with your dog especially during the first few times he wears the Bark Control Collar.
Place the Bark Control Collar properly on your dog and just stay close by. In most cases; dogs will immediately notice that the Bark Control Collar is disrupting their urge to bark which will then result in the dog to minimize or stop barking. However; there may be instances where the dog will tend to bark more each time they get a burst of Lemon Spray from the Bark Control Collar as it may be surprising or startling at first.

Although very rare; but a dog may get into a bark-spray-bark-spray cycle. If this happens, reassure your dog to calm down. As your dog relaxes, he will start to understand only when he becomes quiet, that he will stop getting a burst from the spray. Dogs like this become acquainted with the spray after a few days of using the collar. Soon enough; they will learn to stop barking to avoid being sprayed on.

An improvement in your dog’s barking should be noticed within the first couple of days that he wears the Bark Control Collar. It is important to remember the learning process is still not completed in the first week. During the first few days; some dogs will even “test” this new learning experience and will increase their attempts to bark.

This common and usually occurs during the second week on the collar. If this does occur to you, be consistent with your use of the Bark Control Collar. You must let the Bark Control Collar be on your dog anywhere and anytime you expect him to be quiet. If your dog is not wearing the Bark Control Collar, he may get back to his nuisance barking and training or the bark control mission would suffer a setback.
 

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

• To ensure dog’s comfort, safety and product effectiveness; always make sure that you check the fit of your pet’s collar.
• The Bark Control Collar should not be worn more than 8 hours a day or for every 24-hour-period. Removing the collar before the 8-hour duration prevents irritation caused by prolonged use. If any skin irritation is observed, discontinue the use of the collar for a few days and check if the symptoms persist. If it persists beyond 48 hours, see your veterinarian.
• Clean your dog’s hair at least once weekly. The area right below the dog’s snout must be washed thoroughly as the smell of the spray from the Bark Control Collar may stick to the hair. Clean dog’s hair with a washcloth and a mild hand soap. Rinse and dry your dog’s neck thoroughly.
• If the spray accumulates on the Bark Control Collar itself, wipe it off with a damp cloth and towel dry thoroughly.
