Citronella Bark Collars are designed to administer a short burst of Citronella Spray to distract a dog from barking. They come in a few varieties designed for small dogs and Big dogs and our standard Citronella spray bark collar is a good unit for all-round Dog barking issues. Basically they all work in a similar fashion. A short burst of citronella spray just at the right time. They are activated when the dog barks, usually by the sound of the barking or from the vibration of the vocal cords.
The Citronella Spray Bark Collars are designed to activate when it detects a dog's bark. It uses either sound, vibration detection or a combination of both depending on the model used. short burst of citronella spray is released from the Spray bark collar unit that distracts the dog. The sound of the spray can be heard as it is released - The dog can see the spray and also feels it as it spurts out just below the dogs chin.
The Scent of the mild citronella is also distracting to the dog and can be an 'uncomfortable distractor' to help deter the dog from barking at whatever it is that caught the dogs attention.
Refill canisters are included in each of the kits (as are batteries) replacement canisters of citronella spray can be purchased from the shop at any time. The citronella spray can is held upside down on the unit (similar to filling up a cigarette lighter with gas) once full the unit will be ready to activate.
How many sprays per can of citronella top-up?
This does vary depending on the size of the individual unit you purchase and it's capacity to hold the gas. You will find you can get around 20 - 30 sprays per top-up and each can will contain approximately 20-30 top-ups per canister.
Check the durability of the unit and it's waterproofing. Most units are water proof, however sound activated bark Collars may let water in to the microphone area and so are labelled as Water Resistant. Water damage is rare as they are ina position on the dog to prevent them from getting rain and are suitably water resistant to withstand te odd dunk in a dogs waterbowl.
Replacement batteries for the Spray Bark Collars can be purchased at anytime. Each kit comes with batteries included and the length of time they will last depends greatly n how many times they are activated - if the collar is not in use it is best to turn the unit off to extend the battery life.
