Bonus Tips and Reminders for Making Healthy Homemade Pet Treats

  • Be creative and alternate these recipes with other healthy ingredients safe for cats and dogs. Try using your pet's favourite vegetables or fruits but keep these things in mind:

  • Some human foods are NOT safe for our dogs and cats. Avoid grapes, garlic, and onions, as they have compounds that are poisonous to our pets. Never use chocolate and caffeine as these are extremely poisonous to dogs even in small amounts.

  • Skip the added sugar and sodium. These can lead to serious health conditions for your pets.

  • Avoid store-bought peanut butter, flavoured oats and yogurt with xylitol.  Xylitol is a sugar-free sweetener replacement found in some store-bought food products that is extremely poisonous to our pets. Always check the label.
