PetSafe Deluxe Ultralight™ Extra Receiver Collar

The PetSafe Deluxe Ultralight™ Extra Receiver Collar allows you to add more dogs to your family and protect them from getting hurt outside or from destroying your precious gardens. The flexibility of 5 programmable levels makes this suitable for containing sensitive to stubborn dogs. Built to be compact and lightweight, your dog won’t notice it in a short amount of time.

Waterproofing features protects your investment and your dog from equipment malfunction. No need to worry if you have a pool or a dog that likes to splash around in puddles when it rains. The waterproofing construction blocks water from seeping inside preventing any water caused damage.

The receiver collar helps to contain your dog by delivering a warning tone as he approaches the boundary. If he goes further towards the wire, the receiver collar delivers a safe but startling static stimulation which effectively deters your dog from escaping.

PetSafe Deluxe Ultralight Extra Receiver Collar - PUL-275 Manual

How does it work?

A radio signal travels from the Transmitter on the fence boundary through a buried wire. This marks the boundaries you wish to set. On the other hand; your dog wears a Receiver Collar that will detect the signal from the transmitter.

As your dog nears the boundary, the receiver collar issues a warning tone to the dog. If the dog goes further, he will then receive a safe level of Static Correction. While the static correction is harmless, it will encourage the dog to stay in the boundaries you have established.

Boundary flags also help in providing visual boundaries for your dog. Once your dog is already accustomed to the boundaries; you can then remove the flags. This In-Ground Fence™ has been proven to be a safe, comfortable, and effective training device for pets over 8 pounds.

How to Prepare the Receiver Collar?

The Receiver Collar comes with Short Contact Points ideal for dogs with short hair. Long Contact Points are also available for long or thick hair breeds.

They are available through the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677. You can loosen or tighten the Contact Points using Test Light Tool (A); it is usually one-half turn beyond finger tight. Please check the tightness at least every week.

How To Insert and Remove Battery?

Note: Battery should be installed before attaching the receiver collar on your pet.

This Receiver Collar uses the PetSafe® battery (RFA-67). This is specially designed to make battery replacement easy. It also has water protection features.

To put in the battery, simply align the symbols on the battery (arrow) and Receiver Collar (triangle) (B). Using the edge of the Test Light Tool, turn the battery clockwise until the arrow is aligned with the lock symbol on the housing.

On the other hand, to remove the battery, turn the battery counter-clockwise using the edge of the Test Light Tool (C). NEVER attempt to cut or open the battery. Discard used battery properly.

The Battery’s lifespan will depend on how often your pet uses the system. In other words; it will depend on how often your pet receives a Static Correction. Please test your Receiver Collar at least monthly to know if it is functioning well. You have to check that it activates as it comes near the Boundary Wire.

If you run out of battery; simply visit any retailer for the PetSafe® battery (RFA-67). To locate the nearest retailer in your area, call the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677 or visit www.petsafe.net.

Over Correction Protection Feature

If for some unlikely reason your pet “freezes” in the Static Correction Zone, this Over Correction Protection Feature limits the static correction duration to a maximum of 30 seconds. The system then locks out further static correction but the warning tone will continue until the pet backs off from the Static Correction Zone.

Fitting the Receiver Collar

Important: Proper fitting and placement of the Receiver Collar are imperative for successful and effective training. Ensure that the Contact Points have direct contact with your pet’s skin.

To ensure proper fitting, follow the steps below:

  1. Check that NO BATTERY is installed in the Receiver Collar.
  2. Let your pet stand comfortably (D).
  3. Put the Receiver Collar on your pet with the “PetSafe” logo facing your pet’s chin. Position the Contact Points at the center; underneath your pet’s neck, and make sure it touches the skin. Note: You may need to trim down some hair around the Contact Points to make sure there is contact.
  4. You can check the tightness of the Receiver Collar by inserting a finger between the tip of the Contact Point and your pet’s skin at least one finger distance. Fit should be snug but not too constricting (E).
  5. Let your pet to wear the collar for a while then recheck the fit. Your pet should be comfortable with the Receiver Collar’s fit.
  6. Once you have figured out the right fit of the Receiver Collar; it’s now time to trim any excess collar strap by following the steps below (F):

a. Using a pen; Mark the desired length of the Receiver Colla. Give allowance for growth especially if your pet is young or grows hair quite faster.

b. Remove the Receiver Collar and simply cut off the excess strap from your mark point.

c. To seal the edge of the cut collar; run the frayed edge over the candle flame. This seals the strap and prevents the thread from running. After sealing; you may place the receiver collar on your pet. After sealing the edges; you may strap the collar on your pet.

Important: To ensure comfort, safety and effectiveness of the product, please take note of the following reminders:

  • Ensure direct supervision on your pet during the first 2 weeks of training.
  • Regularly check the fit of the Receiver Collar to avoid. Remember the “one finger” distance between the Contact Point and the pet’s skin.
  • Do not leave the Receiver Collar on for more than 12 consecutive hours.
  • Daily check of the pet’s skin should be done for any signs of a rash or sore.
  • If a pet develops rash or sore, discontinue use for a few days; allow the rash or sore to subside.
  • If the condition does not subside within 48 hours from the time you removed the collar, bring the pet to a veterinarian.
  • Wash your pet’s neck and contact points with a washcloth and mild hand soap at least once a week. When washing; make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Pressure Necrosis, a condition wherein the skin is stressed or strained due to compression. In this case; it is the excessive and prolonged contact of the dog’s skin against the Contact Points. Always sure that the steps above are observed as this condition may occur on your dog if the collar is not used or attached properly.

To Re-Thread the Collar

  • The slide buckle ensures proper fitting and prevents the collar from becoming loose.
  • The collar will slip if it is not properly threaded. The ridges must be facing up.

Taking Your Pet Out of the Pet Area

Important: Always remove the Receiver Collar if you intend to take your pet out of the pet area or boundary.

Once your pet has identified the Boundary Zone, he will be discouraged to cross it for walks or even car rides.

Here are the options you can choose from:

Option 1: Remove and Replace the Receiver Collar with a regular collar and drive him out of the Pet Area by letting him ride a car.
Option 2: Remove and replace the Receiver Collar with a regular collar and leash. Walk your pet out of the Pet Area; as you cross the boundary zone; give a command such as “OK”.

Always leave the receiver collar in the Pet area so your pet will associate leaving the Pet Area only on a leash, only at this place, and only with a person. Initially, you may need to convince your pet to leave the Pet Area with a treat.

Troubleshooting

Receiver Collar is not beeping or correcting.

• Check battery. Make sure the battery still has power. Check if it is installed properly.
• Check that both lights light up on the Fence Transmitter. If they don’t, perform the “Short Loop Test” (page 12).

The Receiver Collar is beeping, but the pet is not responding to the Static Correction.

• Test the Receiver Collar with the Test Light by walking toward the Boundary Wire; the test light should flash.
• If the Test Light flashes, second to check is the fit of the Receiver Collar.
• Make sure contact points touch the skin or if not; trim your pet’s hair where the Contact Points touch.
• Repeat the training steps to reinforce training.
• Your pet may have outgrown the device and is already used to the correction; so you may need to purchase a stronger Receiver Collar via Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

The Receiver Collar has to be held on top of the Boundary Wire to activate.

• Check and Replace the battery if needed.
• Adjust Boundary Width Control to increase the distance from the Boundary Wire that the Receiver Collar activates. Adjust it by moving the dial clockwise. Or try to adjust the Boundary Control Switch to another setting.
• If you are using a Double Loop, make sure Boundary Wires are 3 to 5 feet apart.
• If the problem persists; contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

The Receiver Collar activates inside the house.

• Adjust the Boundary Width Control to decrease distance coverage. Turn the knob counterclockwise to adjust.
• Make sure the Boundary Wire is not too close to the House that the signal can transmit through the walls of the house.
• Make sure you are using twisted Boundary Wires from Boundary to the Fence Transmitter.

Additional Information

  • The system is to be used only with healthy pets. If you have concerns about the medical condition of your pet (medication, pregnant, heart conditions, etc.), see a veterinarian before using or buying the product.
  • This system is not ideal for vicious or aggressive pets. If your pet poses a threat to others, DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM. If you are unsure if whether your dog’s aggression is normal or beyond normal, consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer before using the product.
  • This PetSafe® In-Ground Fence™ is ideal for residential use only.
  • Static Correction is not harmful to your pet. It is designed to startle, awaken senses and not to punish.
  • Regularly test the Receiver Collar at least once a month to verify if it is functioning properly. It should activate at the Boundary Wire. Battery life depends on how often the Receiver Collar is activated.
  • Remove the Receiver Collar from your pet when indoors so the pet can rest his and be back to his comfort zone.
  • DO NOT leave the Receiver Collar on your pet for more than 12 consecutive hours.

Test Light Instructions

  1. Ensure that the Receiver Collar battery is installed properly.
  2. Hold the Test Light contacts firmly on to the Contact Points (G).
  3. Walk toward the Boundary Wire with Contact Points pointing up and holding the Receiver Collar at your pet’s neck level (H) until the Receiver Collar beeps and the Test Light flashes (I).

Note: The Receiver Collar is waterproof, which can make the beep hard to hear.

Save the Test Light for future testing. H If the Test Light does not flash, refer to the Troubleshooting section or contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.

Short Loop Test

The Short Loop Test is a simple test to determine that each component (Fence Transmitter, Receiver Collar and Boundary Wire) is functioning properly.

  1. First, disconnect the Boundary Wire.
  2. Cut out approximately 10 feet of unused Boundary Wire and then connect it to the Boundary Wire Terminals.
  3. Spread the Boundary Wire out to form a circle. Set the Boundary Control Switch to B.
  4. Set the Boundary Width Control knob to 10.
  5. If the Loop Indicator Light does not light up, then your Fence Transmitter is not functioning properly. Contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.
  6. If the Loop Indicator Light lights up, disconnect one end of the Boundary Wire from the Boundary Wire Terminal.
  7. If the loop alarm does not make a sound, the Fence Transmitter needs to be replaced. Contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.
  8. If the loop alarm does make a sound, plug the Boundary Wire back into the Boundary Wire Terminal.
  9. Hold the Test Light Contacts firmly over the Receiver Contact Points. Hold the Receiver Collar near the 10-foot length of Boundary Wire. The Receiver Collar should beep at least one foot away from the Boundary Wire. The Test Light should then flash as you move the Receiver Collar closer to the Boundary Wire.
  10. If Receiver Collar doesn’t beep and the Test Light doesn’t flash, replace the battery of the Receiver Collar. If it still does not beep and the Test Light does not flash, contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677.
  11. If the Receiver Collar beeps, there may be a break in the Boundary Wire.
