Important safety and product information

  • This device can be used by children ages 8 and above. Under strict supervision, disabled people, sensory and mentally handicapped people or people without knowledge or experience provided may use the product. Sufficient instructions on how to use the device safely are provided to prevent potential risks. Children are not allowed to play with the device. Cleaning and maintenance of the product should be done by the dog owner and shall not be done by children without surveillance.
  • Before using the collar, we recommend you to have your dog do an overall physical check-up by your trusted pet doctor or vet to ensure he is fit to wear a collar.
  • The collar is not suitable for dogs that are not in good physical form (i.e. cardiac problems, epilepsy…) or those having behavioral problems (aggressive dog).
  • Check your dog’s neck regularly as repeated rubbing of the contact points against the animal’s skin may cause irritation. If this happens, remove the collar until all signs of skin irritation have disappeared. Never leave the collar more than 8 hours per day on your dog.
  • You can start using the collar with 6-month-old puppies that have already received some basic training (“stay”, “sit” or at least “no”).

The CANICALM bark limiter collar will allow you to resolve problems caused by excessive barking.

In the factory, the On/Off switch is positioned on Off; the stimulations switch is positioned on beep sounds only and the sensitivity setting is in the medium position.

START OF SERVICE

CANICALM is supplied with the battery.
Lift the n° 2 setting mask (Fig. 1) and turn the On/Off switch to On. A beep sound of 1.5 seconds will be emitted indicating that the collar is operating correctly after a few seconds.

ADJUSTMENT AND POSITIONING OF THE COLLAR

Collar adjustment is very important. The strap must be adjusted perfectly so that the contact points are in contact with the skin of the dog.

  • The collar is likely to move and repeated friction can irritate the skin of your dog if the strap is too loose. Furthermore, it will not function correctly.
  • The dog will have breathing difficulties if the collar is too tight.

Put the cover back on the box. Turn the switch On and after a few seconds, a beep sound of 1 second will be emitted, indicating that the collar is correctly initialized.

Place the collar at the center of the dog’s neck. You will know if the strap is perfectly adjusted when you can insert two fingers between the strap of your dog’s neck.

CHOICE OF CONTACT POINTS

As you can see in the box, two different series of contact points are provided. For the device to work properly, the length of the contact points must be sufficient to have proper contact with the dog’s skin. If you have a long-haired dog and the short contact points fitted to the collar in the factory are inadequate, replace them with the long ones supplied in the kit. A moderate manual screwing is can also be done but never use keys for them.

HOW TO OPERATE

At the first bark, a series of six sound beeps will be produced. Another sound beep of 2 seconds will be produced together with a stimulation (short or long as selected) (Fig. 2) if another bark is detected within 30 seconds. Inhibition of any further stimulations is dependent on the absence of any barking within the next 30 seconds.

The stimulation function can be inhibited using the stimulations switch placed under the setting mask n° 1 (Fig. 2). In this case, only the beep sound will be emitted. The barking detection sensitivity setting is a very important preliminary operation (Fig. 2). In fact, this setting determines the correct operation of the product. It provides sure detection of any barking and helps avoid unnecessary detection. The setting must, therefore, be sufficiently sensitive but not too much.

HOW TO KNOW IF THE DEVICE OPERATES WELL

  • Make sure the collar is turned off before doing a test to know if the device is functioning properly.
  • Fix each wire of the neon test lamp under each contact point by unscrewing them lightly and then retightening them so as to pinch the test lamp wires.
  • Position the stimulations switch on short or long stimulation then switch the collar on.
  • Make a streaked object slide over the bark detection contact point (e.g. sleeve isolated knife with teeth). The test lamp must light on showing the collar is operating correctly.

REPLACING THE BATTERIES

If the battery level is low, the collar produces continuous beeps. Turn the On/Off switch to Off. Open the box by removing the screw on the cover, opposite the contact points. Remove the used battery and insert the new one (Lithium 3 V CR 123 A) paying attention to follow polarity indicated on the battery housing.

NUM'AXES advises using the same type and same brand of batteries as those supplied in your newly purchased product. Other brands of batteries may not operate, or may not be completely compatible with your product. You can purchase suitable batteries from NUM'AXES or from your distributor.

NB: Due to more frequent usage during your dog’s training, your first battery may not last as long as replacement batteries.

CASES OF MALFUNCTION

Carefully read this manual and make sure the problem is not caused by a weak battery or incorrect settings before concluding the collar is broken. Make sure the contact points are properly tightened on the unit. Check if the collar is properly adjusted and positioned around your dog’s neck.

You can also do basic troubleshooting to check if the device is really malfunctioning. Do a quick hard reboot on the system by removing the battery from its housing. With a metallic tool (e.g. screwdriver, scissors), touch each of the two battery contacts for 2 seconds approximately. Insert the battery again: one beep is produced, indicating that the collar is correctly initialized. If the problem persists, contact your distributor for a warranty or visit www.numaxes.com for more information.

CAUTIONS FOR USE

  • The system detects only barking from the dog wearing the collar. Nevertheless, although the device is extremely reliable, it can be triggered unintentionally.
  • To avoid unintentional triggering, the dog should not wear a medal, metallic collar, or any other kind of collar together with the bark limiter collar.
  • Remove the battery from the collar if you are not using it for 3 months or more.
  • Never leave a discharged battery in the unit: leakage could damage your CANICALM.

HOW TO CLEAN

To clean the collar, use simply a soft cloth slightly moistened with water or a neutral detergent. Avoid cleaning the collar with volatile liquids such as solvent or benzene.

HOW TO USE CANICANL BARK LIMITER

The CANICALM bark limiter collar has several functions: it beeps sounds to detect short and long stimulations and does sensitivity regulation. You must carefully understand how it works. Make sure to adjust the collar before placing it around your dog’s neck.

It is advisable to start with beep sounds without stimulation. In this way, the dog can understand the connection between the operation of the device and it barks. The collar releases an unpleasant noise when the dog keeps barking

After a few hours, if the dog continues to bark, add a short stimulation, and if this is not enough, add a long one. The dog will associate this unpleasant sensation with its barking and will relate it to the fact that it is wearing a collar.

You do not want the dog to stop barking definitively, but to limit the disturbance caused by excessive barking.
