How does it stop my dog escaping?

The key is to take the training gradually over a few days. Our electric dog collars have varying levels of static 'stimulation' so they can be gradually introduced to the radio signal and taught how to react to the sound of the collar and the feeling. It then becomes your dog's decision not to escape.

If I was to describe the feeling it is similar to a TENS machine - the sensation I would describe as an annoying 'pins-n-needles' sensation.

Take the hard work out of choosing a dog breed to suit your family. When we were recently asked "What Dog Breed would you suggest?" we came up with these simple questions to ask yourself before choosing a dog breed to suit your lifestyle, the time you have available to exercise your pet and how to adopt an abandoned dog.

Ask yourself these simple questions to choose the right dog breed for you

1. What Space is Available?

To a large degree, considering how much space you have should narrow down the size of the dog you would look at. In conjunction with that; also decide if you are prepared to give it a lot of regular exercise or maybe want one that may not need so much. Will your dog be an inside dog or an outside dog or a bit of both? Some breeds although being large may not need a lot of space.

2. Exercising the dog.

Who is going to exercise and walk the dog? (that's always a good question for the family) and a good question for those wanting an active dog breed. (A dog could be a good motivator to get out and do some walking.) If you love running then look for a breed that can match your running ability. Consider how active you are and try to match a dog or a breed to your activities.

3. Your family

Who will the dog interact with and how will they cope with the new addition to the household? Do you have small children that may be frightened of a huge dog breed or a family member who may not be able to control an excitable breed.

4. Your gardens and gates.

Check to make sure your property is ready for a dog also. Gardens may suffer if you have a small yard, fences need to be secure and open doors and garages need to be secured. A Pet Barrier Dog Fence can help isolate and protect areas of the property to stop dogs digging or jumping the fence.

5. How do I rescue a dog?

Coco - The Dog Roof Walker | Dog Fencing Solutions

Coco is a very smart dog.. When Lea needed to fix the TV antenna, Coco decided that copying mum was a good idea. So when mum put her outside to play.. She did. If only mum had installed a Pet Barrier dog fence.

Coco jumped up on the wall - just like mum did, then jumped on the pergola roof - just like mum did. But then, Coco decided to clamber over the roof to jump off at the front of the house and promptly toddle off down the street. Well, who would have thought?

It all turned out OK; Coco has her own dog tag with a phone number and is also microchipped. Well done Lea.

The Pet Barrier solution

Lea put out a call through our Facebook page to see how we could help. After a bit of a chat we found that the Ground Keeper Pet Barrier and hidden fence was the way to go; an invisible dog fence for Coco. Coco is an American Staffy who can be quite determined so the the programmable levels on the receiver collar really made the training comfortable for Coco and helps teach Coco to stay away from the radio signal.

The wire was run through the garden bed to cover the area that Coco used to get to the wall, an added bonus is that Lea now has a 'Coco Free' garden bed. The benefit of using our coded digital FM radio frequency is that it did not jump on to the metal pergolas roof and prevent Coco from using the area. The system also allowed for the intricate layout and a small radio signal.Well Coco is safe and Lea doesn't have the worry of Coco injuring herself when jumping off the roof or travelling down the road. Lea was also worried that someone might take a liking to Coco and she would never see her again.

Well done for rescuing Coco and taking such good care of her Lea.

Harry saved after 4 weeks in a fox trap!

"Harry ran way the first day I got him. He was lost for 4 weeks and found when trapped in a farmer's fox trap extremely emaciated and starving".

"Back to normal at our house on 20 acres of property I am still unable to let him off the lead with my other 2 Italians. I fear that he will run away again if frightened outside. I have been doing dog obedience training with him but still will not take the risk of letting him off lead. A friend sent me your web address. How does the pet receiver collar work? What an amazing story, I was so glad to hear that Harry was ok, It must have been a nightmare for the time he was missing. Just goes to show we can never give up on our dogs – and they rarely let us down.

Volunteers Re-home Escaping Dogs after Floods.

Another chance for the dogs - 2011 Queensland Floods.
'Animal Rescue Queensland' discovered that shelters and pounds in Queensland were overwhelmed with animals that fell victim to the 2011 floods... Our donation of a Dog Fence Kit also helped to keep foster dogs safe.

Escaping dogs saved.

The Dog Line has stepped in to assist with some funds and a solution to some escaping dogs being fostered by the volunteers of ARQ.

So what should you look for in a Pet barrier?

Radio Signal; All radio signals can be subject to interference, using an FM radio frequency ensures that other radio frequencies will not activate the dog’s training collar. If your neighbour already has a hidden fence then using an FM radio frequency on your system will help both fences to exist side by side.

Energy Fusion; Energy surges through the mains power can cause the radio transmitter box to fuse and malfunction. Using a system with a third ‘earth pin’ on the power plug will protect the transmitter and save you the cost of a new one. The Pet Barrier transmitter is covered by a warranty for surge damage.

Lightning Protection; During a storm lightning strikes can cause energy to travel back to the transmitter along the boundary wire. Having an external form of lightning protection will ensure that the radio transmitter box is protected.

Invisible Dog Fence: A Safe Way to Fence Your Dog

An invisible dog fence is made up of two components, an invisible boundary or “Dog fence” created by a radio wire, and a collar worn by the dog. When a dog wanders in to the invisible dog fence radio signal, the collar (which is battery powered) will administer some form of correction, usually a beep followed by a brief and mild static stimulation.

The advantages of an invisible dog fence are many. If you have an existing physical fence, an invisible dog fence can make it dog proof for escaping dogs. You may have internal areas within your yard that you would like to make ‘dog proof’. An invisible dog fence can protect an internal area by creating the radio signal around it. Whether it be pool areas, garden beds, or flowerbeds, it is easy to install additional invisible boundaries around these areas using the radio wire.

Invisible fencing for dogs is also a boon to those who live outside the city, such as farms or rural properties. Not only can the invisible fence be used for keeping your dog from running away, but it can also keep your pet away from livestock, gardens, or other areas.

Whether you live inside or outside the city, invisible fencing for dogs is a humane way of keeping your dog in its designated area without resorting to tethering it. Tethering a dog is not recognized as an effective method of containing an escaping dog. If you own a dog for the purpose of increasing the security of your property, then having it run freely around the property perimeter is certainly an advantage to having it tethered or caged.
