This is achieved by placing a series of marker flags along the fence line.

Solutions to Stop a Dog Jumping the Fence

A Pet Barrier electronic FM radio fence offers a convenient and easy solution to stop a dog jumping the fence and escaping. It can be used effectively to keep a dog in an area or out of an area.

The FM radio fencing kits come in a variety of sizes to suit every garden size, from small suburban yards to large properties, and can easily be extended by purchasing extra wire.

Similarly, the Pet Barrier is suitable for containing small and large dog breeds, with the receiver collars coming in two sizes and being fully adjustable.

Stop a Dog from Jumping Fences using Radio Fence Technology

If you are concerned that the shock collar may harm your pet, there is no need for alarm. Your dog receives a mild uncomfortable sensation that conditions it to keep away from the perimeter of your garden, providing a psychological barrier that will keep it safe and secure.

The Pet Barrier FM Radio Fence can be run underground and used as a barrier to contain your pet when you have no fencing in place, or it can easily be attached to an existing fence to successfully contain your pet, and will stop a dog jumping over a fence.

How does it stop my dog escaping?

The key is to take the training gradually over a few days. Our electric dog collars have varying levels of static 'stimulation' so they can be gradually introduced to the radio signal and taught how to react to the sound of the collar and the feeling. It then becomes your dog's decision not to escape.

If I was to describe the feeling it is similar to a TENS machine - the sensation I would describe as an annoying 'pins-n-needles' sensation.

When we were recently asked "What Dog Breed would you suggest?" we came up with these simple questions to ask yourself before choosing a dog breed to suit your lifestyle, the time you have available to exercise your pet and how to adopt an abandoned dog.

<fb:like></fb:like>

Ask yourself these simple questions to choose the right dog breed for you

1. What Space is Available?

To a large degree, considering how much space you have should narrow down the size of the dog you would look at. In conjunction with that; also decide if you are prepared to give it a lot of regular exercise or maybe want one that may not need so much. Will your dog be an inside dog or an outside dog or a bit of both? Some breeds although being large may not need a lot of space.

2. Exercising the dog.

Who is going to exercise and walk the dog? (that's always a good question for the family) and a good question for those wanting an active dog breed. (A dog could be a good motivator to get out and do some walking.) If you love running then look for a breed that can match your running ability. Consider how active you are and try to match a dog or a breed to your activities.

3. Your family

Who will the dog interact with and how will they cope with the new addition to the household? Do you have small children that may be frightened of a huge dog breed or a family member who may not be able to control an excitable breed.

4. Your gardens and gates.

Check to make sure your property is ready for a dog also. Gardens may suffer if you have a small yard, fences need to be secure and open doors and garages need to be secured. A Pet Barrier Dog Fence can help isolate and protect areas of the property to stop dogs digging or jumping the fence.

5. How do I rescue a dog?

Once you decide on the size of the dog and how active a breed would suit your needs and family. You might get a picture of the type of dog that would suit your circumstances. Look at the dog rescue sites we sponsor and troll through their masses of homeless dogs. Click here to adopt a dog.

6. Maybe Foster first.

Most rescue sites will agree to let you take a dog 'on trial' or maybe you can sign up as a temporary foster parent. This might allow you to see whether the dog breed you chose will work for you. That way you can see how it interacts with the family and how it suits your home.

Re-homing dog organisations will have older dogs and also pups to choose from so they are definitely worth a look. You can even get a report on the dogs behaviour and temperament to decide if it fits your circumstances.

Don't overlook adopting an older dog that will fit perfectly in to your home (and is already toilet trained ta-boot)

Coco is a very smart dog.. When Lea needed to fix the TV antenna, Coco decided that copying mum was a good idea. So when mum put her outside to play.. She did. If only mum had installed a Pet Barrier dog fence.

Coco jumped up on the wall - just like mum did, then jumped on the pergola roof - just like mum did. But then, Coco decided to clamber over the roof to jump off at the front of the house and promptly toddle off down the street.
Well, who would have thought?

Coco was found

It all turned out OK; Coco has her own dog tag with a phone number and is also microchipped. Well done Lea.
BTW.. Lea adopted Coco from the RSPCA and has taken her to local Puppy training classes to get her well socialised. You can help re-home a dog through the dog rehoming charity we support. Visit SAFE here..

The Pet Barrier solution

Lea put out a call through our Facebook page to see how we could help. After a bit of a chat we found that the Ground Keeper Pet Barrier and hidden fence was the way to go; an invisible dog fence for Coco. Coco is an American Staffy who can be quite determined so the the programmable levels on the receiver collar really made the training comfortable for Coco and helps teach Coco to stay away from the radio signal.

The wire was run through the garden bed to cover the area that Coco used to get to the wall, an added bonus is that Lea now has a 'Coco Free' garden bed. The benefit of using our coded digital FM radio frequency is that it did not jump on to the metal pergolas roof and prevent Coco from using the area. The system also allowed for the intricate layout and a small radio signal.Well Coco is safe and Lea doesn't have the worry of Coco injuring herself when jumping off the roof or travelling down the road. Lea was also worried that someone might take a liking to Coco and she would never see her again.

Well done for rescuing Coco and taking such good care of her Lea.

"Harry ran way the first day I got him. He was lost for 4 weeks and found when trapped in a farmer's fox trap extremely emaciated and starving".

Read Sue's amazing story about Harry, found after being missing for 4 weeks...

"Back to normal at our house on 20 acres of property I am still unable to let him off the lead with my other 2 Italians. I fear that he will run away again if frightened outside. I have been doing dog obedience training with him but still will not take the risk of letting him off lead. A friend sent me your web address. How does the pet receiver collar work? Not sure how it does. Thanks Sue."

What an amazing story, I was so glad to hear that Harry was ok, It must have been a nightmare for the time he was missing. Just goes to show we can never give up on our dogs – and they rarely let us down.

A solution to Sue's escaping dog problem would be The Dog Line's Pet Barrier as a permanent invisible fence or radio dog fence to stop escaping dogs and also look at a remote dog trainer collar if you want to go outside the property.

We recently supplied one of our electric dog fence systems for two dogs on a property where they had extended the fence to 8 feet and laid wire on the ground to stop the dogs escaping or dog digging under the fence, but nothing worked.

Within our introductory dog training and then three approaches to the radio signal both Staffies refused to go through the open gate. Our radio dog collar was set to the training level and the low correction level as an easy intro to the system. flexible levels on the dog collar is crucial to the success of the dog training collars.

The dog’s tails were still wagging but they were not happy to follow the owners through the gate.. The programmable levels on the collars really make a difference to the dog’s comfort during the training and the ongoing success of escape-proofing a property.

5 things we looked for in a good Pet Barrier:

1. The Transmitter – FM Frequency that will not interfere with the radio signals on your property or allow other signals to set your dogs collar off and give false corrections.

2. The dog's Receiver Collar – Chew proof – programmable correction levels for easy and comfortable training of your dog.

3. Surge/Lightning Protection (This is covered by warranty) to protect your transmitter from damage and cost of replacement.

4. The Wire – How long will it last? Hi-Density Poly Ethylene coating.

5. The Warranty - Does it cover surge damage or dog chews?

We also offer a metro installation service where we will install the system, train your dog and fully demonstrate the function of the system to you.

A comprehensive DIY installation guide is included in each kit and our 7 day help line is available for any queries you may have at 1300 THE DOG.

The most significant advantage we offer is having a long warranty on all of our containment systems.

'Animal Rescue Queensland' discovered that shelters and pounds in Queensland were overwhelmed with animals that fell victim to the 2011 floods... Our donation of a Dog Fence Kit also helped to keep foster dogs safe.

Escaping dogs saved.

The Dog Line has stepped in to assist with some funds and a solution to some escaping dogs being fostered by the volunteers of ARQ.

Donation from The Dog Line
ARQ had a few dogs to re-home that were very unsettled and started escaping and jumping the fences. We discussed the option of a Pet Barrier Dog Fence and donated a Grounds Keeper kit to enable one foster carer's yard to become 'escape proof'. Your free dog fence guide can be downloaded here...

We believe that being part of an industry means we take on a commitment to contribute to the wellbeing of those within that industry, the dogs.

ARQ arrange foster care.

ARQ started as a result of the flood affected animals in South East Queensland in January 2011. They soon discovered that the existing shelters and rescue organisations were overwhelmed with animals yet there were still people wanting to help and many more animals that needed help.

ARQ have helped many animals out of the shelter environment and into loving and caring foster homes; also allowing additional time to search for the families that must be missing their pets or in need of a new home.

Our Queensland Flood Appeal
The Dog Line recently donated $380.00 from our loyal customers and supporters to assist those still in need after the January floods.

In addition we have also donated a

Making sure you get the right dog containment system to stop the dog escaping will mean you won't have to worry any more.
Of course each dog is different and so are the requirements of each property so consultation with a specialist is recommended to find the most suitable radio Pet barrier for you and your dog. For more information contact The Dog Line on: 1300 THE DOG (1300 843 364) Click here to see our Free Poster on the Pet Barrier.

So what should you look for in a Pet barrier?

Radio Signal; All radio signals can be subject to interference, using an FM radio frequency ensures that other radio frequencies will not activate the dog’s training collar. If your neighbour already has a hidden fence then using an FM radio frequency on your system will help both fences to exist side by side.

Energy Fusion; Energy surges through the mains power can cause the radio transmitter box to fuse and malfunction. Using a system with a third ‘earth pin’ on the power plug will protect the transmitter and save you the cost of a new one. The Pet Barrier transmitter is covered by a warranty for surge damage.

Lightning Protection; During a storm lightning strikes can cause energy to travel back to the transmitter along the boundary wire. Having an external form of lightning protection will ensure that the radio transmitter box is protected.

Warranties; With the above 2 points in mind, check to see if your radio transmitter box is covered by a fusion warranty. If it’s not you may need to pay out for a new radio transmitter box.

The Receiver; The other most important part of these systems is the receiver collar that the dog wears. Check to see how it reacts to the radio signal. For example: how long would the receiver take to react if the dog ran at the signal? Also, does it have programmable levels for easier training and if it is chewed by a dog will it be replaced under a warranty?

The Receiver Battery; A replaceable battery in the receiver collar with a 2 year life will mean less worry for the owner. ‘Anti Linger’ is a feature that will correct the dog if it stays in the warning ‘beeping’ zone too long, this prevents the battery from being run down and the dog escaping.

Running Through; It should be understood that training the dog correctly plays a major role in preventing the dog from escaping. Dogs have a personality and they escape for different reasons. A more determined dog will certainly have different requirements. Getting the correct advice about the system and specific training is essential.

Is an Electric Dog Fence the Answer?

You know you must take action to stop a dog escaping but will an electric dog fence be an effective solution? If you have the added concern of how to stop a dog digging an electric dog fence may not offer the flexibility you need to keep your dog off the garden as well as stopping your dog digging.

Netting didn't work.

Placing fencing and netting over the garden did not work here. The owner decided not to use an electric dog fence as she did not want to risk touching the wire herself. Our Radio Pet Barrier gave flexible radio wire that contoured the garden beds easily and only affected the dog once he was trained.

You may have decided that installing a traditional fence is quite an expensive project for your property. Or you may already have one, but it doesn’t stop your dog digging or stop your dog jumping the fence. Perhaps you have tried or are considering an electric fence for a dog.

Dog owners quickly learn from experience that dogs can jump over an electric fence or even get around it by running through a driveway or other gateway that the electric fence for a dog does not cover.

Even if a dog owner can cover the entire property with the electric fencing, you should know that the dog could still get out. That's because an electric fence can fail due to technical issues.

Also, an electric fence can affect people or other animals who may accidentally touch the electric fence wire. They can receive the shock it delivers. No dog owner wants that to happen.

Remember, once your dog is past your property boundaries, he is in danger. Owners could lose their dog or face hefty fines and vet bills. You can avoid the problems by selecting an effective solution to dog proofing a fence.

Some options available for different hidden fences.

Pet Barrier – Skedaddle The skedaddle is a small wireless fence radio transmitter designed to create a virtual fence around a small area. Just plug it into any powerpoint and pop an instant small pet barrier. This easy to use indoor unit can be placed in the area you want to protect. It emits a radio signal directly from the transmitter without the use of boundary wire.

Pet Barrier Transmitters

The transmitter sends the radio signal down the pet barrier wire and controls the depth of the radio signal that projects from the wire. A wire allows you to contour the area to give your dog maximum use of the yard. Protect and isolate internal gardens and narrow paths.

Pet Barrier – Hidden Dog Fence

Designed to stop dogs jumping the fence, digging in the garden, running through open gates or garages and to keep dog off gardens. It uses a unique Coded Digital FM radio frequency that will allow small areas to be protected from a digging dog.

Hidden Dog Fence: Sends a radio signal down a wire that runs around the property. A radio signal is emitted from the wire to cover an area or a fence line. Once the dog moves near the area of the hidden fence or if the dog crosses the boundary of the fence, he will receive a mild static pulse from the electronic fence collar. This stimulation is harmless but will help keep your dog away from the area. It is available for all sized dogs and uses programmable levels to help train the dog.

Wireless Dog Fence.

It is an electronic radio fence that is designed to keep your dogs within the boundaries of a circular radio signal. Care needs to be taken with wireless fence systems around metal objects that could cause signal interference to the household or cause false corrections.

Each dog is different, so are the reasons they escape and how easy it is to escape.

Invisible Dog Fence: A Safe Way to Fence Your Dog

Keeping a dog in an invisible dog fence area can be the solution to your escaping dog problems. Dog fences have holes and other escape routes that a crafty dog can sniff out before the owners can find them.

Dogs escape and wandering dogs can be a common issue with dogs kept in a city environment. The problem can get worse if you do not act quickly, and owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. The good news is, a solution may be easier than you think: invisible fencing for dogs. (Here is our favourite Facebook Fan Zimmy cutting wood as punishment for escaping down the road to Jessie cat's house! Follow Zimmy's story on our Facebook Page here...)

An invisible dog fence is made up of two components, an invisible boundary or “Dog fence” created by a radio wire, and a collar worn by the dog. When a dog wanders in to the invisible dog fence radio signal, the collar (which is battery powered) will administer some form of correction, usually a beep followed by a brief and mild static stimulation.

The advantages of an invisible dog fence are many. If you have an existing physical fence, an invisible dog fence can make it dog proof for escaping dogs. You may have internal areas within your yard that you would like to make ‘dog proof’. An invisible dog fence can protect an internal area by creating the radio signal around it. Whether it be pool areas, garden beds, or flowerbeds, it is easy to install additional invisible boundaries around these areas using the radio wire.

Invisible fencing for dogs is also a boon to those who live outside the city, such as farms or rural properties. Not only can the invisible fence be used for keeping your dog from running away, but it can also keep your pet away from livestock, gardens, or other areas.

Whether you live inside or outside the city, invisible fencing for dogs is a humane way of keeping your dog in its designated area without resorting to tethering it. Tethering a dog is not recognized as an effective method of containing an escaping dog. If you own a dog for the purpose of increasing the security of your property, then having it run freely around the property perimeter is certainly an advantage to having it tethered or caged. (Here is Zimmy ordering products from The Dog Line)

Used correctly, an invisible fence for dogs is an excellent training tool and safety measure for any dog owner, and well worth considering. Though the price is a bit more than a length of rope or chain, it is a far more humane alternative that will make sure your pet learns to stay safely inside your yard while still granting them a lot more freedom. We recommend that you discuss your needs with a professional supplier and look at the advantages of a Pet Barrier.
